Students come to ALC to build strong language skills. While many tools support language learning, none replaces actual mastery of a language. We place great value in each student’s true abilities, but cannot fairly assess our students if their work is not their own.
ALC teachers and administrative staff are authorized to withhold credit when they believe an assignment or exam does not represent a student’s true abilities. ALC administration may also choose to make a note in the student’s permanent file.
Plagiarism, or “taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own” (Oxford Dictionary), makes it impossible to measure a person’s own ability. Students at ALC Rabat must submit course work that is their own. Papers, presentations, projects, assignments, and exams should be in the student’s own words. If sources such as the internet or books are used, students must reference those sources, and exact quotations should be noted.
Tools such as ChatGPT or Grammarly may be used for support as a planning tool, but they must never replace a student’s original work. Usage of AI must be cited at all times.
Cheating during in-class or online exams is not allowed, and may result in a score of zero. For online final exams, your teacher may deduct points from speaking and writing sections if cheating is suspected.
