Children: Ages 4 to 11
Levels
- Children remain in the same level for the entire academic year.
- Toddlers (age 4)
- Pre-Child (age 5)
- Child 1 to 6 (ages 6 to 11)
- Children in levels 1, 2 and 3 are placed by English aptitude and by age. The Younger groups are for ages 6–8, and the Older groups are for ages 9–11.
- Children in levels 4, 5 and 6 are placed by English aptitude in mixed-age classes for ages 6–11.
- Children 11 years of age whose birthday is before January 31 are asked to enroll in the junior program.

Juniors and Young Adults: Ages 12 to 14
Levels
- Juniors and Young Adults advance one level per term.
- Junior Program (ages 12 to 14)
- 12 levels. Students advance one level per term, or 3 levels per academic year.
- Entry to the Adult Program at the start of autumn follows the January 31 age cutoff explained in Tuition and Fees. Eligible students take an adult placement test to determine their level.
- Young Adult Program (ages 12 to 14; exceptions may allow students to remain until age 16)
- 4 Levels. Reserved for high-level students who have completed Junior level 12.
- When eligible for the Adult Program under the January 31 age cutoff, Young Adult students may:
- Take an adult placement test and move to the appropriate adult level; or
- By exception, remain in the Young Adult program until turning age 16, then take an adult placement test before moving into the appropriate adult level.
